Binding = Order-to-order

Hi All,
Could someone please describe me what does the following information mean?
"You cannot state Serial No. or Lot No. on a demant when it is linked to a supply by Binding = Order-to-order"?
It shows when I want to post Shipment from Sales order. I have not assigned Serial numbers yet to the lines so I think it might be the problem but I'm more interested what does this error msg mean
