Not seeing users in session table in 2013 R2

Has anybody seen a scenario where we don't see users in session table. The client has it setup to disconnect idle users after 20 min and it looks like they are disconnected. There is another setting to allow keep the session for certain time. So the RTC reconnects but it looks like they do not appear in the session table.
This is on Rollup 8 2013 R2.
The way we found out is that there is code that searches for current session and it does not find it.
