Print manually calculated values in RTC report group footer

I would like to print values calculated in the on after get record of a data item in the group footer of a RTC report. The variable on the group footer seems to only contain the value from the very first record.

For example,
Report body:
Record 1, test = 1, time = 1:00, class = red, x = 3
Record 2, test = 1, time = 2:00, class = white, x = 1
Record 3, test = 1, time = 3:00, class = red, x = 6
Record 4, test = 1, time = 4:00, class = red, x = 7
Record 5, test = 1, time = 5:00, class = white, x = 2

Report group footer:
test 1, class red, "sum of x" = 16
test 1, class white, "sum of x" = 3

"sum of x" is accumulated into a variable in the on after get record of the data item. The data item is sorted by group only. In the RDLC report layout, a group is inserted grouping on test. When the report is printed, the group footer contains

test 1, class red, "sum of x" = 3.

How do I get the calculated total of "sum of x" to print on the RTC report?

Using the Last() function returned the correct sum.
