Use of sales order archive functionality..?

Hi Experts

1) when I archive a SO with some of its Quantity already shipped, I am not able to restore that SO.
2) when I archive a SO and then I Delete that SO then I am not able to restore that SO.

Is the only use to archive a SO is only when nothing is posted, ..?

A use for archiving is logging when and who printed a sales confirmation (with boolean Archive true).
Seems right/logical to me restoring with something posted is not possible.

Can you please give some explanation for above line..

When you print an order confirmation a sales header archive record is made.
But only when you apply Archive on tab Options.
When after that modifications are made and a new order confirmation is printed, you can see the difference between the first and the second confirmation in the sales archive.
