problem with a server

hi all and "happy nights"

we have an installation very simply: a navision database server and some navision clients, all of them performing navision attain 3.70. inside the LAN everything is ok but, for some purposes, this customer have installed a terminal server, to let some users to connect in remote access.

we install the navision database server without problems. and they install the terminal server without problems. now, we want to install navision client in that server to publicate it in terminal server. when installing navision client in the server, we deselect everything except the executable and help archives (a "minimal" installation i think...). at this point everything is normal and ok, "ninguna problemo"

now, with the server running both services navision database server and terminal server, we launch navision client and a message window appears telling us the system is installing something... ok, press ESC ESC ESC... until we broke our fingers and now we have the client ready to open/connect to a database ](*,) ](*,) . we select file, database, open, and then we type the server name, user and password and accept. again appears the installation message and navision client doesn't respond... :-s :-s :-s :-s ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

does somebody knows what to do to make dissappear that installation message? we try erasing the zup file, stopping SQL server and other SQL services, uninstalling and reinstalling the navision client... and the message always appears. they don't use SQL for anything but i think this services get in conflict with navision server :?: :?: :?: :?:

probably it's due to some kind of crash between terminal server and navision server? i don't think so, but in navision everything is possible...

i'm lost...  some ideas will be well (manuel) received
spanish joke: "very well, manuel"... it sounds funny!!

zanx u all. regards

what to do to make dissappear that installation message?
Here is what (I think) is happening...

On a server, you run the install when you are logged in as Administrator, and you install the software for 'All users'. The installation creates special shortcut(s) in the Start Menu called 'Installer Shortcuts'. One way you can see this is to look at the 'Properties' of the start menu item -- the 'Target' field cannot be changed.

Whenever a user clicks on an 'Installer Shortcut', the installer first checks whether the application is fully and correctly installed for the current user, and, if it is, then starts up the application. If, however, the installer thinks that the current install needs to be 'repaired', it will pop up a message asking for the product cd -- if that's where it was installed from in the first place.

There is a 'per-user' registry key that needs to be setup to enable the scroll-wheel on the mouse to work properly. This is the item that the installer finds is missing when a 'regular user' starts Navision for the first time...

So, what to do? Choose one of two options:

    1) Remove the current install; copy the contents of the install CD to the hard disk, and reinstall the application from HD. When you install it like this, then the installer will find the 'source' when it starts for each user, and they won't get the popup asking for the Product CD. (You have to leave the source in place -- if you delete it, the installer will get mad).

    2) Create a 'regular' Shortcut for the users (e.g., in the 'All users' profile) that starts the fin(sql).exe directly. The scroll wheel may not work just right, but they won't get the installer message.

Hope this helps, and that all will be well!

Since 3.70A you can install Navision to TS with Setup.exe (in a standard way)... you only need to run Navision once under admin rights...

I advise to use 3.70B for you to install...

You might want to try reinstalling both the client and the server. The client must be installed BEFORE the server so that could be the problem.

But this is only for Win2k3. We have no problems on WIn2k ... you only need to install Navision in Installation mode... (through Insert/Remove software in control panel)...
