Odata Connectivity

Hello,
I just published a query as a web service on our NAV 2013 implementation. When I try to test connectivity using internet explorer I'm prompted for a username and password. If I enter these in the format of domain\user I am able to connect, but when I try to use PowerPivot in Excel I am unable to connect.
We use Windows authentication and I'm able to connect to NAV with no problem. I tested this on a NAV demo system installed on my laptop and all worked fine. The only difference is that in the live system the NAS server in the top level domain and by account is in a sub-domain but would not think this is an issue as I authenticate for NAV without a problem.
Can anybody advise me on what needs to be done to resolve this problem?
Thanks
Nick
