Bin Replenishment without Directed Put/Pick

Hi All you clever people,

I have customer, whose warehouse location is NOT setup with Directed Put-away / Pick. However, he would like to use the bin replenishment functionality (or something similar).

The location is set up with Receive and Put-Away. When they receive pallets from their supplier, a warehouse receipt is posted and the goods are physically left in a receiving/bulk area - unopened and still on pallets and ready to be put-away. As the space on the shelves is limited, he does not want to put-away the items until the there is room on the shelves.

So my question is: Is it possible to have NAV generate put-aways only when quantities fall below a certain point in a bin? My closest solution is the Bin Replenishment tool, but this would require the full scale "Directed Put-Away / Pick" option, which seems to have many other implications.
