Hi, please understand I've not worked on Dynamics Nav lately. However I've been tasked to upgrade Nav 2009 SP1 to Nav 2013 R2. I've gone through the documentation of the upgrade guide but still a bit lost as to what steps to follow. I've also read the chapter on Upgrading from the book Implementing Dynamics Nav 2013. Also the other thing is that there has been only database conversion but no prior upgrade i.e the Nav 2009 SP1 we have now is just Nav 4.0 being converted (Nav 4 DB converted to Nav 5 DB and Nav 5 DB converted to Nav 2009 SP1) and no upgrade have been done. Thus below are the Questions I have:
    1. Is it possible to upgrade this current Nav (2009 SP1) to 2013 R2? 2. On migrating from 2009 SP1 to 2013 R2 what tool is the best suited for this (Upgrade Toolkit vs Merge Tool)? 3. If using the Merge Tool do I need to export all objects {Tables, Reports, XMLports, Codeunits, Menusuites and Pages} for all three DBs {Cronus 2009 SP1, Customer version 2009 SP1 and Cronus 2013 R2}. Then use the merge tool to compare etc. 4. If using the Upgrade Toolkit what should I export as text to use with the Upgrade Toolkit?
As for the data migration below are my assumptions:
    1. Export all customized objects (objects from application upgrade and manual customization) from Nav 2013 R2 Cronus DB. 2. Do all the data conversation and data transfer with Nav 2009 SP1 client with DB copy by using Upgrade700701.1.FOB 3. Open Upgraded DB in step 2. with Nav 2013 R2, import upgrade objects and complete data upgrade by using Upgrade700701.2.FOB.
Please let me know if missing any other steps.

Thanks.

I have seen that post but says nothing about my situation and doesn't answer my questions. Even that post where it says Import all customized objects in .fob is not clear as I can't see the source or when those .fob objects were exported. Also that post is only talking of data upgrade.

No one out there to at least tell me if this is possible or not? Or if there are any tools even commercial ones to achieve this goal?

You have a big upgrade process moving from release 4 application to NAV 2013R2.
All custom reports need to be converted and most likely redesigned because sections are gone, replaced by Visual Studio layouts.
All forms are gone, replaced by pages.
These are different objects, so there is no merge type tool, though there are third party products that will take on reports for you - at a price, and not as well as doing it yourself.

Dataports have to be moved to xmlports.

If you are using any modules that were rewritten in version 5 - like jobs and service - you have no straight move of those mods.

Yes - it is possible, but it will take a lot of work and knowledge.
Your other choice is to re-implement and move limited data from the old to the new system.
