I have tried now to install NAV 2013 R2 on Windows 2008 Server (on two different physical servers) and it will not install with the following result:

Microsoft Dynamics NAV Build 35473
Server
Microsoft Dynamics NAV Server Components
This installation package cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service. You must install a Windows service pack that contains a newer version of the Windows Installer service.

Web Server Components
Fatal error during installation.

The setup I followed was:
Install all updates
Install NAV
Got a message to install PowerShell 3.0, so I did and restarted
ReInstall NAV

Anyone ?

EDIT: CHanged title to Cannot install 2013R2 on Windows 2008 SBS Server

So i went here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942288 and downloaded "WIndows Installer 4.5" for Server 2008

    Note:
"Windows Installer 5.0" is newer but NOT available for Server 2008!!

Started x64 Platform: Windows6.0-KB942288-v2-x64.msu and got a message:

This update does not apply to your system!!!!! ](*,)

Take a look at system requirements for NAV 2013 R2

    It only installs on

    Windows Server 2012.
    Windows Server 2008 R2.
    Windows 7 Professional or Enterprise
    Windows 8 Professional or Enterprise

Google for nav 2013 r2 system requirements and the first link is the pdf link.

That is what I thought too a few weeks ago and asked Microsoft. The guy on the phone pointed to this document:

Microsoft Dynamics NAV Server only runs on 64-bit editions of the following versions of Windows:
    • Windows 8 Professional or Enterprise.
    • Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, or Enterprise.
    • Windows Server 2012.
    • Windows Server 2008 R2.
    • Windows Server 2008.
    Warning
The Microsoft Dynamics NAV Server Administration tool does not run on Windows Server 2008. It does run on Windows Server 2008 R2.

    • Windows Small Business Server 2008.
    • Windows Small Business Server 2011

But did some searching as you said and think there has been a mistake in document naming. Obviously this is R2. Will call ms again. Thx

Checked and rechecked, it should work...

System Requirements for Microsoft Dynamics NAV Server The following table shows the minimum system requirements for Microsoft Dynamics NAV Server.
Operating system Microsoft Dynamics NAV Server only runs on 64-bit editions of the following versions of Windows:
    Windows 8 Professional or Enterprise.
Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, or Enterprise.
    Windows Server 2012.
    Windows Server 2012 Essentials.
    Windows Server 2008 R2.
    Windows Small Business Server 2008.
    Windows Small Business Server 2011

And the server is a SBS 2008 Server but it still doesn't work. So you are warned!!

    Hi

I got caught with this one today - and this is my findings.

It is both correct and wrong that Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2 can be installed on Windows Small Business Server 2008.

If you google "dynamics nav 2013 r2 system requirements" : https://www.google.dk/#newwindow=1&q=dynamics+nav+2013+r2+system+requirements
you will find a System Requirements document dated Sep. 2013 in which this setup is supported.

If You narrow that search to documents dated in 2014: https://www.google.dk/search?q=dynamics+nav+2013+r2+system+requirements&newwindow=1&biw=1320&bih=633&sa=X&ei=0TsjU7eGHajOygPw7YGYCA&ved=0CBsQpwUoBg&source=lnt&tbs=cdr%3A1%2Ccd_min%3A1%2F1%2F2014%2Ccd_max%3A&tbm=
you will find a new System Requirements document dated January or Februray 2014 - in which Small Business Server 2008 and 2011 has been removed from the supported OS for NAV Server.

This is due to a conflict with Windows Management Framework which is not installed on SBS servers.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/sbs/archive/2012/12/15/windows-management-framework-3-0-applicability-on-windows-small-business-server-2008-2011-standard.aspx

Windows Management Framework 3.0 can be installed - but that will break the Exchange, Sharepoint and SBS Console Server features of the SBS Server

    thx for your results too.

I have seen some suggestions that 2013 R2 will work on a normal 2008 Server. There were some extra steps todo.

Hi - it should be possible to install on Windows Server 2008 64bit if you install Windows Management Framework as listed above.

Client part can be installed, but the services are making problem, I'm getting info that my installer is older ver, but I have 4.5 and that is MAX ver for Windows Server 2008 Standard x64
