Item Availability and Assembly component lines

We have a situation where we have to include an assembly component lines in Item availability calculations. Some Production lines are included on some of the canned reports, but we cannot find options to include assembly lines.
The user has incomplete(open/released)assembly orders due to component shortages. Ideally, he would like at the time of receipt to be able to identify the assembly orders that can be completed with this incoming inventory.
We would like this to be accomplished without using the Reservation functionality,
