NAV fields table and beyond

Hi all,

Is there any way to access that field table outside NAV?

I´d like to add/modify caption from tables in some batch process, so I wonder if there is another way than opening each table and adding manually the caption

I´ve seen this tool:
http://www.idyn.nl/products/objectmanag ... light.aspx

and it does pretty well, but I´d like to know if I can do myself.

Regards,

First of all, Table Captions are not stored in the Field table. Second, Field is a so called virtual table http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd338858.aspx. You won't be able to edit it from outside NAV. If you just want to change the Caption of a field then you could probably use the Translation function (Tools -> Translate...).

    thanks for the response.

The tool provided above does write directly without import/exporting.

Does any1 know how to ?

No, I think OMA also exports/imports the modified field captions in background. It just provides a better frontend to edit the captions. But I'm sure Reijer could help you with your question about OMA. There's a seperate topic just for OMA http://www.mibuso.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=17454.

    1. I think there's a free OMA Tool lite version. Don't know if the translation solution is part of it.
    2. They can at least confirm that there's no other way than to export/import the captions in background.

    Hi Txeriff,

Nowadays the OMA writes the captions to the objects without a translation file. (@einstein: Old versions used indeed translation files :D ).
It exports the object in txt-format add the captions to the text-file and imports the text-file and compiles it.

You can download the trial in the download section and try it yourself.
I don’t believe we've put any limitations in the translation tool in the trial.

... you know I'm always a bit outdated.

Anyway the "new" solution of OMA is also something about exporting NAV internals to text files, changing it and importing it again. So, my basic assumption still remains, there is no pure internal solution.
