Export To Excel > 5000 Error

There are a few posts regarding this issue but I cannot seem to find a definitive answer that was worked for everyone. We are trying to overcome the restriction of the 5000 row limit when exporting data to excel from a page. I have inserted the below line with different values like 6000, 50000 etc but the error persists at 5000.

We are at build level 32012.0. I did see a hotfix related to build level 32146. Does the "add key" fix below only apply to build 32146 or higher?

We are updating the clientusersettings.config on the individual PC.
Is there another place where this value should be changed or additional steps?

You can adjust that number in clientusersettings.config :

<add key="MaxNoOfXMLRecordsToSend" value="5000"/>

I tried the "Or this One" and the "Last but not least" method so i'll have to assume the hotfix is required before doing the <add key="MaxNoOfXMLRecordsToSend" value="10000"/>
