Any way to over pick on production order?

I am wondering is there any way to over pick on the pick ticket for a production order and then having the Consumption Journal pick up the actual qty picked on at production order to consume to the job? This way it will be easy to see material variances based on pick qty vs. standard BOM.
They are using NAV 2009 R2.
