Create a new Company with FRENCH chart of accounts

HI All,

We are a North American based company working on Navision R2009 (having North American version) and we had acquired a company in France recently. WE would like to set up a company in the same server that we work and my understanding is that the companies in France follow a French Chart of Accounts (1xxxxx= Equity,5xxxxx= Bank and Cash etc).

Since we do not want to buy a "W1" version of NAV we thought of setting up a new company in the North American version itself and create the Chart of Accounts from the scrap and do all the mapping for Posting Groups, dimensions etc. Only this that we are going to buy is that we are going to get a "Parisian French Module".

I would like you all to address my following concerns

[*]Can we set the Chart of Accounts in French language itself once we buy the PArisan French module,
[*] Will the mapping etc will work with teh North American version
[*]Can I have a link to see how the French Chart of Accounts will look alike and is there any free tutorial that we can download
[*]Will there be any techinical things that we will be missing from the French version to North American version?

I appreciate if anyone could answer these questions and advise if we are heading up in the correct direction.

Thank guys!!

Shiva

I don't know what you mean by "Parisian French Module", but I could give some hints on what we did when we rolled out our NAV solution to our french companies.

There are several default requirements in France that have to be covered by your solution, e.g. the country specific chart of accounts that you mentioned. The structure of this chart of accounts could be displayed easily in NAV versions of other countries, but there are much more things to be covered by your solution. E.g. there is some kind of interim posting, I don't know if that's also available in Canada. Also think of all your captions in your individual and/or vertical solution objects, French Canada (FRC) could be different to French France (FRA). You would need to implement all country specific changes of France in your Canadian database and make sure that it will only be applied in the french company. And if you add another country (in future) then it will be even worse.

That's why we decided to setup a different database for France and not just another company within our existing database. And I still think that was a very good decision even though we have a little more effort when roll out new features or updates.

    I completely agree with EnsteiNET.

The French localisation is so weird, there is lot of stuff, so it is better to make separate DB with French localisation.

    Hi ,

I had faced the same problem with one customer. I had to install NAV in his five subsidiaries around Europe.
The best way to do it is to install it in a new Database Instance.
first you have to install the Demo company that comes with french version and using the migration tools to migrate all the relevant tables to your French Company. (Posting Groups, Series, VAT Declaration reports).

This will save you a lot of time and errors , and you will have all your configuaration in the French Language.

Also if you face problems with the connection speed you can install the new company on an Azure Windows Server. I have done the same for my client.

    Kind Regards
    Gregory
