Customer is on 2009 classic. To answer your question "Why would you want to to that?", my problem is perfectly placed in the first para of the above msdn blog.
Do you or your customers have peak hours when all the sales orders and invoices need to be posted at the same time? Or do you have large numbers of postings that need to be run without blocking other users? I bet the answer is yes. If so, then you may also have experienced your screen freezing for several seconds – minutes even – until the order is processed. “Try again later” is also a well-known option.

Why would you want to to that?
If your customer is already on RTC, I would upgrade them. It's a relatively easy job.
Marketing people have made the story to nice.
My advice would be to spend an hour or so looking at codeunit 80 compared between 2009 and 2013.
It will help, but it won't magically solve blocking.
