Does Service tier and NAS consume a Licensed user

Hi,
I have just installed NAV 2013 on a client site.
Tehre are 2 NAV Servers - both rnning as services.
NST is pure service tier
JobQue is a 'traditional' NAS handling the JobQueue

Both services are using a domainuser called NAVService

The client has the following in the license

350 Starter Pack 1
360 Extended Pack 1
450 Full User CAL (Concurrent User) 3
8100 Codeunits (each) 20
8200 Tables (10) 10
8350 Pages (100) 100
8750 XML Ports (100) 100

It seems like both services consumes one of the 3 licenced users or do I miss something in the licence?
Fair enough that the NAS consumes one, but I'm surprized that the service tier also takes a user.

I don't see any of the two servers in the session page.

Any help or link to explanations is appreciated

/Jens

    Hi,

Your assumption about the NAS is correct, it does take a session.

The service tiers should not take a session so that sounds a bit strange. What is shown in the Session List page when you see this behavior?

    Hi Claus,
Thanks for your answer. I see I'm a little late on my reply.

The NAS shows up in the session list as client type NAS, and fair enough that it takes one session.

I also tried to remove the NAS service and run the NAS directly on the 'main' service tier, and the result is the same.
So NAS takes one session regardless of which service is running it.
Though I'm a little surprized, I can live with that, as it is close to normal behaviour. (NAS has always consumed a session, but you had one for free in the license, now you have to pay)

Regarding the NST session I found out that it is actually not the service itself that takes a session.
    It is the Session Page.
I can only open the Session page if there is a free session in the licensed users.

Strange, but maybe 'by design'

Microsoft has 'accepted' the described behavior as an error.
I'll share the answer/solution when I get one
