AX date intervel

Hi

can anyone help me in understanding date intervel creation in AX
at 1st you have from date and to date

From Date
Before
Start/End
+/-
Days/months/years
After
Start/End
Locked Start date

how does it work in real time, when i want to create a date intervel for 1st quarter 1st april 2013 to 30th june 2013, is this means once i create the quarter date intervel, i need not to create the same 1 st quarter date intervel for 2014, is my understanding is correct, can anybody explain with example
