Call to member send failed

I am using the XMLHTTP class of Microsoft XML V6 to do a SOAP send.
When I execute it via the classic client it works fine but via the RTC I get the message
"The call to member send failed: System error: -1072896763"
This error occurs whether or not the server is on the same machine.
I have searched but cant find any clue as to why this might be.
Does anyone have any suggestions, please ?
