Negative inventory

I work with Navision 3.6.
The problem is that:
- an item has reservation set to always
- original inventory is 0 for the item
- a purchase is posted for 10 pieces from the item with date= 31.03.2005
- if I make a negative adj. for the item (quantity=1 piece) with the date 31.01.05, Navision let me doit - but I had no inventory at that date
Can this be restricted somehow from configuration, or only by development?
