i have customer who need to purchase metal sheet in PCs and with different length in Metres.
The product is same.
e.g. Metal Sheet ABC 10Metres - 3 PCs @ $100/M = (3 PCs x 10M x $100/M) = $3000
Same Metal Sheet ABC 7Metres - 5 PCs @ $100/M = (5 PCs x 10M x $100/M) = $5000

they got 5M, 3M, 1M, 6M etc.. in the inventory list.

They need to track both Qty on hand and Total Metres.

Currently they creates new Item No. when there is a need for new measurement e.g. 2M.

Could someone advise how NAV could help to address this issue. Bear in mind that existing system is having a exhaustive list of inventory and very difficult to manage.

Thanks.

Preferably use UOMs and if that doesn't do it you might need to combine with Variants. But this all depends on information that you have not told us about how they do business.

    Hi David,

What other information do you need?

I would use 1M length as base UOM, and proportional UOMs for all other lengtes. You may need to write off existing stock to implement this, create a new item card and ajust quantity by journal. If you need to know exactly what pieces of metall you have in stock - you can use a lot no's for this purposes.
