Item Tracking - Blank Lot Numbers

Hi,
I have an item which is setup to use lot number tracking. However, lot tracking was not set to mandatory. This results in 'blank' lot numbers being received if lot tracking lines were not entered.
How can I assign lot numbers to the 'blank' lot numbers?
I have tried using Item Reclassifcation journal, to no avail. The item tracking summary window does not list 'blank' lot numbers.
I am running Ver 3.7
