To be honest I did not check, but I heard saying that they can be installed next to each other on the same machine. But of course they cannot operate on the same service tier and database.
Problem is, when you want to run RTC pages from classic client/devenv. Because you cannot select which version you wnt to start, it opens with the last installed.

In NAV 2013 you can actually select which service tier to connect to from C/SIDE, so that would only apply to NAV 2009.
Yes, but when you will have more NAV versions 2013 after some hotfixes will be released, you will be in same troubles... (if you do not keep all on same build)
i've got both versions on my local machine. 2013 installed, 2009 copy/pasted.
The problem about running pages from classic client can be overcame by opening the right rtc before trying to run the page from classic. you can:
1. Open 2009rtc
2. open 2009classic
3. run a page from the classic client
4. open 2013classic
5. run a page from 2013classic (error)
6. Open 2009rtc
7. run a page from 2013classic (works)
i think it works like this, more or less...

I suggest you create a new questions, since this is not really related to NAV 2009 and NAV 2013 on the same box.
When you do, I will be happy to answer your question.
