Restructure dimensions in the G/L Setup

Hi,
Can we restructure dimensions in the G/L setup? Let say a company has been using up to 4 dimensions and the 4th dimension is now no longer in use. The company wish to have another dimension as there is a new analysis requirement. Is there anything we can do with the 4th dimension instead of adding a 5th dimension, or what would the best practice be for this case?
