SECURITY: Secure NAV Employee data from Excel ?!?

Hi experts,

I used the search, but found no topic about my problem. We use NAV 2009 with SQL 2008 and build up our role concept so nobody (instead of the HR crew) can look in our Employee data. But the problem is that any User with a little experience with Excel know the "Connect to database" function. How can we block the access for this database with Excel and allow it for NAV ?
Thanks for any suggestions.

Regards,

Udo

Did you actually try to access NAV with Excel (not with your IT account but with a normal user account)? If the Accounts on SQL are configured correct it will will not work.

If you find it still works from Excel probably your partner has given dbowner rights to the SQL users.
