I was trying to use the BOM Journal and it is filtering on items that have the BOM checked. We do not use these BOMS we use the Production BOMS for the manufacturing module. So do these 2 link? that is the purpose of both of them?

Production BOM is a part of NAV advance module which includes Advance Manufacturing, while BOM journal is a part of Basic license.
BOM journal works if the assembly list is defined for an Item i.e. Parent and child item.
When an entry is passed through BOM journal, Positive adjustment will be posted for Finished Items and Negative adjustment will posted for Raw material. In assembly list you cannot define Scrap %, Routing link code, calculation formula, Production Lead Time etc , which is possible only through Production BOM.
Also Explode BOM functionality in Sales works only for items whose Assembly list is defined.
