Item Movements are for the movement between bins within a warehouse location where you are using Directed Put-Away and Pick
Item Reclassification is used for a variety of reasons including:
- Movements between bins within a location with bins but is not setup as Directed Put-Away and Pick
- simple transers between locations where shipping and receiving are not required
- dimension changes to Item Ledger EntriesGerry Kistler

Just to add to Gerry's point:
Reclassification, as name suggest is process of changing the information which make a product distinguish. In reclassification you can change information like: Dimension, Bin Code, information regarding Serial no. etc. you can put values in corresponding "New" fields.
where as movement is change of physical location.
Hope this will give you some idea.
cheers...Thanks,

reclass will not alter item card. it will create two ledger entries to adjust your item.
when you're talking about Item Movement, are you talking about Transfer Order or Warehouse Movement ?
Basically both 'Movement' and Reclass can be used to adjust/reclass your item ledger entries information (dimension, location, bin ).
The difference is that Movement has a proper document (receipt and shipment), but your work is also increase because you need to do receipt and shipment for every item movement.
If you don't need to manage receipt and shipment, then reclass is much simpler in terms of work load and data.Microsoft Certified IT Professional for Microsoft Dynamics NAV

hi dans,
thanks for replying... yes transfer order required receipt/ shipment for structured warehouse (depending on the location card setup)
not sure if warehouse movements able to generate any documents or is there a more workload increase..0 -
Warehouse Movements start from the Movement Worksheet. From there it will create Movement documents similar to a Pick or Put-Away. But what you need to use when you are moving inventory internally depends entirely on the location. If you are using Directed Put Away and Pick then you must use Movements and cannot using the Item Reclassification Journal for any movement between bins (or even between locations - you would have to use a Transfer Order)
If your location is not Directed Put Away and Pick, then you cannot use the Movements - you must use the Item Reclass for movements between bins.Gerry Kistler
