NAV to Word reports (old style)

I have to maintain and add to the collection of NAV to Word reports for one of our customers. This is the old style where you define merge fields as place holders in the Word template and then write NAV data to them. You can then execute them directly from NAV.
The customer would like to place data in the Word headers which NAV does not support (it ignores the ones I defined).
I tried using some Word tricks like StyleRef but nothing I tried would let me populdate fields in the Word header.
Are there any Word gurus who know how to do this?
