How to close a Work Shift in 2009 W1 R2

Hi,
One of my clients is using NAV W1 2009 R2 database. Their stores work on shifts. I have defined four work shifts. POS allows me to log into any of the defined shifts.
How do I close a shift and move on to the next shift? How can I prevent a user from logging into a wrong shift?
