Launching an XMLPort from Code from a Menu item on a Page

I was wondering if it is possible to launch an XMLPort from a Menu (action) item on a Page from code (vs. properties of a Menu item).
What I need to do is run a few lines of code to get the XMLFile created (and make sure it exists) and then have the XMLPort execute.
