I know this was probably asked before and there are different thoughts about this, but...

If i wanted to have say... 10 shortcut dimensions? Has anyone done this successfully? Any input would be appreciated.

    Hi,

this works if it's done right, it's a lot of work and eventually no-one will be using it  Somebody has done this with more than 10 shortcut dimensions at my employer. Only 4 dimensions are in use...

    with best regards

    Jens

I have same experience - too much work for nothing. Could be solved in different ways. In most cases, first though is "hey, unlimited dimensions, let to use them! We will ad this and this and this and this...". But second step is "who should enter all the dimensions to all the documents? It is not possible. Let to use only this and this dimension.".

I did it before for 16 dimensions. It took a lot of work, and only 6 of them were used at the end...

You just need to sit down and work out the objectives of the project.

If the primary purpose is tpo generate billings and revenue for the partner, then it will probably be a successful project. But if the purpose is to provide a good solution for you client that will improve their business then it probably will not be.

It seems strange that the business requirements for this customer came to needing 10 short cut dimensions. and sound more like one of those "That Sounds Like A Good Idea" type projects.

Analyze the business needs of the client and work out what they really need.
