Upgradation types & process

I am sorry if the question has been asked before for upgrading from nav 5.0 gb to nav 2009 r2.
I searched the forum & came across different post like solution upgrade,technical upgrade,object upgrade,upgrading executables,partial upgarde.So many types of upgrade.Whats the difference between all these upgardes.I am confused.Any help is highly apprecaited.

I have not worked on any upgrade project before.I am gng thru Upgrade qucik guide bt unfortunately i am not getting anything frm it.
My company has gven me some objects from 5.0GB & told me to upgrade it to NAV 2009 r2.So this comes under which type of upgrade.?
I ahve been told that I have to craete 4 databses in developers toolkit.One standard base 5.0 Gb1,one db with importing customer objects,one nav 2009 r2 gb db base,one another 2009 r2 gb.

How will i determine from objects what hotfixes are applied from verison & all.Its so confusing.
Please help me by explaining a simple process for upgrading nav 5.0 gb to nav 2009 r2.& how do i begin with?

You have to do Technical Upgrade First.

Before that you have to do Compare and merge process in developer toolkit.

Download Developer toolkit here : http://www.mibuso.com/dlinfo.asp?FileID=1107

Create 4 database in developer toolkit. (Use Text object file for import)

1 - Nav 5 Base with hotfix
2 - Nav 5 Current Custom
3 - Nav 2009 R2 Base
4 - Nav 2009 R2 New Custom (4th version created through compare and merge process)

Solve all errors in 4th version and for further process refer Upgrade Quick Guides.
