Business Notification Service

Has anyone successfully installed and implemented Business Notification Service?
I have been trying for a month. I get an error at the end of the installation - SQL NS registration failed.
Microsoft has had me try a number of things, and they even got on our system, and got development involved.
The last suggestion is that we need to reformat our server.
I would appreciate any success stories, or suggestions (other than reformatting our server). Thanks.

Have you switched on BNM in the Setup?
Have you subscribed to any of the Notifications?
Are you changing the correct data in order to send an immediate notification (i.e. Production Order or something)
cheers,

I'm having the same problem as sblot... BN server installs without problems... the scheme is set up directly from a template, and completed and started in the BN manager, no problems there. Everything looks right in the client... BN Setup has the checkbox next to "send notifications"... I run the "suggest lines" on the BN worksheet, and it suggests a number of lines... I can list them or show them... Then I send them to Business Notification under "Functions" and it says "__ lines sent to Business Notification" on the screen (with the correct # in the blank). And then no email is sent. According to the exchange server, the Navision/SQL/BN server is not even attempting to communicate with it. It's setup with Windows Authentication. Any other ideas?Trevor Norcross

for tguptaHi All,
Can anyone tell me how Business Notification works .I have been able to install it properly .But dont know how to make Notification schemes work .I am not able to receive any mail .Any update on the previous posts will be highly appreciated
You need :
- create schema in BN manager (example : new form template, stock, create a filter with item = 70000 and inventory < 5000, add internal account and external email, and for finish click complete)
- in purchase, use the BN worksheet, and generate notification with lines, and send it with function.
For Trevor Norcross :
I have made some investigation and now i know that the messages go to the folder named isolatedstorage in localsetting\applicationdata.
So i have stop the service and the web service and send notifications.
But i have nothing in the folder, then i will investigate in Navision functions.

Hi Guys ,
I am trying to connect to Navision 4 Database on the server and i am using sql option after that i start navision business notification from my PC and now it ask the name of the server and it successfully logs on to the server and shows below that connected to business notification server http://x(servername).
After that i go to Business Notification setup and try to click yes on the send notifications button and i get a error "You have to install Microsoft navision business notification to be able to send notifications ."
I dont understand why this error is coming if you guys have any idea that will be highly appricated.
Best Regards,
Tarun0 -
You must fill the tabe 9801 with this 2 lines :
BN_MessageBusUrl_0 http:\\(serv)\BusinessNotificationMessageBus
BN_PublishRetryTime_0 100
=> (serv) is your servername.
Normally this is done by the installation.

Hi sblot ,
I am still getting the same error .Any idea on this
Many Thanks,
Tarun0 -
I had that same problem, you need to get a refreshed license (with the MBS granules), then the tabledata actually get's populated by the program.

gus0 -
I have news informations BUT not the solution.

to know if the system is working fine we must look in the 2 SQL tables :
MessageStore and TransmissionLog in the BN database.
For me these 2 tables are empty.
Is somebody here has these tables filled ????

I managed to install and configure BNS.
I tried to send mail and I did it.
Now my question is: how chan I create new notifications without using templates?
What I have to edit/create in Navision?0 -
You can create new notifications using XMLPORT in Navision 4.0. Actually I dont know how XMLPORT can be created but you can use Application Designer Guide in the Navision 4.0 product CD.0

Hi All,

Hello,
Can anyone tell me how to do the subscirption on sql server .Mean to say what should i have to select when i publish as it shows a list of many database and what shud i do when i have to pull subscription. It would be highly appreciated if someone can explain in detail how to do the subscription bit .I have no idea about how to configure sql mail stuff .
Thanks in Advance,
Toshi0 -
I think Busienss Notifications are not needed - you can use xp_sendmail with an SQL trigger under SQL or the SMTP mail sending OCX downloadable from mibuso. Yeah, it means you have to write code yourself, but if you do it yourself, then at least you can be sure it works. I think DIY is a good approach.
Do It Yourself is they key. Standard code might work - your code surely works.0 -
Hi Shenpen,
Thanks for that but would ya mind explaining that in detail. And more over how to handle the subscription bit .
Thanks in Advance,

I think the real goal of e-mail sending is different. I mean the real goal is to save users browsing in Navision for waiting something to happen, or make phone calls to colleagues asking "Have you already?..."
So I think the important notifications are like:
- sending mail to the warehouse manager when an order was released ("Start shipping it, guys!"
- sending mail to the salesperson and maybe to the client when the warehouse created the warehouse pick document "Order SO05/99232 picking process has started"
- sending mail to the salesperson and maybe to the client when the warehouse created the posted shipment "Order SO05/99232 ready to ship"
etc.
The strange thing is that when I was to the 4.0 training in Denmark, the guy said they created the basic 5 notifications just because they did not have ideas to more. I wonder why, because these above stuff I think are really important: they turn Navision into a really powerful business management solution. Without them, Navision is but an accounting an analysis software, but with them it is a real "artifical boss" who "cracks the whip" :-) to make people work and I think this is the real goal of any business software - increased performance and productivity.
So I don't think subscriptions are important - sending notification of new products are much less important than the above stuff.
How to do it? To use the mibuso OCX simply read it's docs. To use SQL extended stored procedure, learn SQL, but the skeleton would be approximately (syntax is not necesarily working, it's just a skeletal example)
CREATE TRIGGER navi.dbo.[Cronus Rt_$Warehouse Activity Header" FOR INSERT AS BEGIN
DECLARE @ORDERNO VARCHAR(20)
DECLARE @CUSTOMERNAME VARCHAR(30)
DELCARE @MAILSUBJECT VARCHAR(300)
SELECT @ORDERNO=[Source Document No_] FROM inserted
SELECT @CUSTOMER NAME -- a long select of getting the customer name
SET @MAILSUBJECT 'Order ' + @ORDERNO + ' to customer ' + @CUSTOMERNO ' has been released'
master..xp_sendmail @recipient = 'warehousemanager@company.com', @subject = @MAILSUBJECT
END
Do It Yourself is they key. Standard code might work - your code surely works.0 -

I'm working(trying!) to work with Business notifications and i'm having a problem that seems to be frequent: don't arrive any e-mail to my mailbox.
I've repaired that the table 9801 never get populated by the installation program.
So what should i do to get a refresh license with the MBS granules?
Please help me because i'm despaired with this!
P.S.:
1) I'm working with 2 virtual machines: one is client, the other is server;
2) I've got SQL Standard;
3) Mail server: IIS smtp server;Arlindo Rocha

Hi Arlinda,
I am having the same trouble .Everything seems to be working fine except that mail does not arrives .When i go to business notification worksheet and suggest lines .It show all the notifications. and it shows in the log when i send them to business notification but no mail arrives i dont know why ???? ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)
I dont think its the license issue as you might be using Navision 4 license .
Can you see anything on this page http://yourservername)/businessNotificationsubscribe/
for me this page is blank nothing over there .
Anyone having any idea about this .... :?

SQL NS registration failed..
Has anyone got an answer from MS on this one. I have a couple of successful installations - also being able to receive emails that are time and event based and WHAM! On one single installation, run into the above problem.
The installation is done by the book, and I have a couple of "live" ones up and running else were...
Looking forward to any ideas - other then format c:
Thanks,
Ieuan0 -
We got past that by following the instructions from Microsoft Navision support to manually the 2 databases before running the install process (BusinessNotificationInstanceMBSBN and BusinessNotificationInstanceNSMain)0
-
There are many reasons why this error "SQL NL Registration failed." might pop up.
After we have removed terminal services from Windows Server as MS suggested, the BN Server installation succeeded.0 -
I also get an error at the end of the BN installation - SQL NS registration failed.
From Microsoft i get new installerUtility.exe. We replace with existing one. Afterwards intsallation went smoothly.0 -
HI there.
We have installed Business Notification and everything seems to work fine. I can create new schemas, subscribe to Notifications from the web, create XML, add code to send notifications if a field changes and so on, however I do not get email. Even though I subscribed to one event, I do not get the email/notification.
I debugged the code and I see that the BN codeunit and XML are called when my field changes on the ONValidate trigger, however I still do not get email.
Any suggestions ??
Thanks

Good day, respectable gurus, l too encountered these problems, and after a lot of work (some that l dont quite remember), l did get BSnotification up and running as smoothly as l wanted. There have been a lot of issues raised in this topic and l dont think l can answer all of them.
To make my life easier, please send me an email with your issue, so that l may post the answer here ( if l have it
).
If you are getting an error when you are creating virtual folders ( during installation), please upgrade your internet explorer to a version 6++.
If you have installed BSN but are not getting any email, tick "Send Notifications", if its not ticked. If you get an error, "Install BSN bla bla", check a table, Property Table, there should be two entries in there (Please refer to prevois msgs for what information is supposed to be in there). After that, please restart your BSN server. Then check if two services ( I dont remember their names, but l think they all begin with BN).
test if mail server is accepting connections from your client (Start -> Run type cmd, type "telnet mailservername 25". You must be welcomed by your mail server...meaning communication to the mail server is up and running =D>
Now check your (server) eventviewer ( Start -> Run and type eventvwr) There shld be a BSNotification bla bla group. Check if there are any entires of success. If not, check your Errors in he event log, please post what you find there.
I hope was was brief and thorough. It was a long process to get it running, and you should be patient if you are to succeed.$cside -MBS

HI there.
First of all I would like to thank you for your help so far.
I checked the mail server in the command line and that is working fine.
I than went to the Event Viewer and to the Business NOtification LOf that you are mentioning and there are not messages there.
Therefore I went to the event log and here are 2 of the error messages I had in there. The first on at the time, I changed a value of the field therefore the email should have gone out but it did not.

You help in this matter is greatly appreciated.0 -
Hie,
From your 2nd error, there is an error in your Property Store table values. There shld be two entries, as follows:
BN_MessageBusUrl_0 http://server/BusinessNotificationMessa ... rvice.asmx
and
BN_PublishRetryTime_0
10000
After setting those values, please try restarting your machine. Trigger an event after that.....and check your event log, let me know what happens.
The second error has to do with the Notification services on SQL Server , and l hope you followed the Business Notification installation steps by having installed all the "prerequisites...Notification services is one of them), because it looks like it cannot communicate with the objects created in SQL server when you install notification services.... You might consider re-installing your BN. Dont wory about your schemas, just export them, and then import them after the re-installation of BN.
let me know..of your success, or.... your next ](*,)$cside -MBS
