Slow consumption posting for a particular item

Hi all,

I have this problem whereby whenever we post consumption on this one item (a semi-finished good item), it takes a very, very long time (like 5 minutes per line). When I investigated further, I saw that this item has thousand of lines in the reservation entry - tracking and surplus lines, pairing. The quantities transferred are split into thousands of lines, many in small quantities, even in decimal points. Whereas in fact, whenever we transact with this item, it's always with whole numbers.

This put a strain on the performance of Navision 5.0 SP1 that we're using. During the consumption posting - no one else can post, resulting in severe locking issues.

Does anyone else have this problem? Can anyone point me to a feasible solution to try?

There are a lot of issues that can mess up reservation entries. Especially if you "un-reserve" and "re-reserve", or sometimes rounding issues can occur which are not immediately obvious. What happens is these end out forming long reservations chains that often remain. If you know what you are doing you can remove these entries and clean it all up, but make sure you know how to do it.
