Consequences of a BOM Certification

Hello everybody,
I ask you what are the consequences of change of status of a BOM modified and then certified on Production order inserted before.
Which Production Oders are updated? The ones in which status?
Is there a method to prevent this?
The customer want that the Production Order remain always in original/creation status for field Quantity Per.
