How to use copy and paste with gimp ???

Hi folks,
I would like to create a form with an image, in which I want to place an arrow. Therefore I would like to paste an arrow into gimp so that I can save this arrow as a picture. Does anybody know how to place/paste an arrow (or any picture) into gimp?

But try for example insert Text and set font to Windings or another symbol font... And insert the apropriate symbol...
