Recommended way to change Base Unit of Measure

We need to change the Base Unit of Measure of some itemes. They have ZERO inventory currently though there lot of old transactions. Example: from KG to NO and to remove any other current Unit of Measures (like KG, GRM, etc) from the item card.

any thoughts on this.

    Create new Item card and block the old one.

    When I said SOME items, I was actually wrong. Now, I see that the item list has more 1,700 items. Department head is reluctant to recreate all other related entries like BOM etc.

    Will try to convince. Any other way?

    Can you share your experience on what will happen if just go and change the Base Unit Of Measure when the stock are ZERO and start adding inventory?
