Insert New Sales Line

I would like to insert an extra sales line (table 37) when a user creates a sales order line (using page 46 sales order subform) if a few conditions are satisfied, such as quantity and item number.
What is the basic procedure for inserting a sales line into a table and making this line the active record within the sales order subform during user input.
