You can not delete or change the type of the Official Date

ernesternest Member Posts: 162
Hi all

I am trying to upgrade to Nav2009 R2 and i am having the following problem:

"You can not delete or change the type of the Official Date field (in the G/L Entry Table) before the value in the field is reduced to 0(zero) or (blank) in all records. This message occurred because a nonzero value was found for the record..."

If you have any idea please suggest how to solve this issue.

Thank you and best regards
Ernest

Seems you have an Italian version (Field 12100:"Official Date" ; I don't know if other localized versions have that date) and you want to import a version that hasn't that field in it.
To fix it, you have 2 options:
-first clear the field if it has some values and it is not used (DO NOT DO THIS WITH AN ITALIAN DB!)
-add the fields (In the italian version, you also have field 12101:"Positive") to the object you want to import.

During the upgrade process, you need to upgrade the objects to the new version. Probably you used the wrong version to upgrade to or you lost the fields in the process. This is something that should be done by a developer.

To upgrade an object, you need to do this:
-first find the Base (=Cronus) (=called OLD BASE version) version for the country of your customers database(=OLD CUSTOMIZED version)
-you also need the new base version of the SAME country (=called NEW BASE version)
-You have to confront the OLD BASE version with the OLD CUSTOMIZED version. These changes you have to apply to the NEW BASE version in order to create the NEW CUSTOMIZED version.

In our case, I think this happened:
-OLD CUSTOMIZED version is the Italian version
-NEW BASE version is the W1 version (or at least NON-Italian)

So you try to import this NEW BASE version and NAV complains that a field that must be removed ("Official Date") is not blank everywhere.
To fix it, you need to recheck/redo this upgrade of the objects.

    Hi kriki
    Thanks for your posts.

I want to upgrade from 4.0 to 2009.
I have some difficulties which i dont get.

I am trying to follow step by step the user manual, but i am stuck.

    The manual says:

1 Create a backup of the customer’s current version of Microsoft Dynamics NAV from
a client computer and then uninstall the old version of Microsoft Dynamics NAV on
    that computer.
2 Install the newest version of Microsoft Dynamics NAV on the client computer.
3 Restore the objects from the backup of the old customized database into the new
version of Microsoft Dynamics NAV. Do not restore the data now.
4 Restore the backup of the old standard database that you have just created into the
new version of Microsoft Dynamics NAV.

My question is on point 3: How to restore the objects but not the data?

Because this is the error that is coming in the steps below, or at least i think so.

So if you could help me to solve this point, i think i could go without problems in other steps.

    Thanks again

Where did you get these points? It is a lot more complicated than that to do a full upgrade. Check the DVD in subdir "UpgradeToolKit" to have a manual for the upgrade.

BTW: if you have an .fbk, you can also use it as a .fob-file (object designer => import files and select the .fbk- file).

In the Upgrade Toolkit folder, it is a upgrade-toolkit-manual.pdf file.

From there i am getting this points. This is the right document or not.

Please dont do from pdf file..

use the word Document from Upgrade Quickguides folder

But the Quick Guides it is saying:

    1. Customize new standard objects.
Any customization in the customer’s old database must be implemented in the new database.

    Manual Reference
    CHapter 3.

Thats why i am following the pdf file.

At which point are you? Are you trying to upgrade the objects? You already upgraded the objects and want to upgrade the data in the DB?
