Webservice with xmlport as parameter

Hi,
Can anyone give me example of using xmlport as parameter which is by reference.
I tried but i am getting blank response. No values in nodes.
I created one webservice in NAV2009 that takes XMLPort as parameter(By Ref.)
I am sending Item No., Description and Inventory field.
I field the inventory field when i import the xmlport. But i am not getting the response back.
