Another option is the Online Training Course "Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009: C/SIDE Solution Development - Optimizing for SQL Server" available at Learning.Microsoft.com. I just went through this course while preparing for my NAV2009 solution development certification. It has a good section on why table locking occurs and how to avoid them.
