Handheld Scanners

I just finished reading the book - Implementing Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 - by David Roys in preparation for our migration to Navision 2009 and noticed a statement in the book that I would hope that someone on the board would clarify...

"Some third-party add-ons may make it necessary for certain tasks to be performed in the Classic client, particularly if there is a need to take control of hardware such as scanners from within the application."

We currently use handheld scanners during production (backflushing stations) and was wondering if it's possible to use a scanner thru the RTC or do we need to run the classic client instead?

Regards,

Ian

The scanners act like keyboard and they will work on RTC just fine.

There are some scanners that don't act like a keyboard and require integration with OS/App.

How do you tell the difference?

Open Notepad and scan a barcode. If the data is pasted on the notepad, then it's just like any keyboard.
