Yes, it's possible. We're doing it inhouse on our server since some of our clients are running SP1 RTC and some clients running R2 RTC.

Cool, glad to hear that it's possible... oef

    Do you have a short "how-to" and "what-to" ?
How does one go about installing them side by side without hick-ups

There is an issue with the Visual Studio connection for report layout. However, there is a posting on the NAV Team Blog with a resolution to this issue.

Here's a step by step instruction on how to install multiple service tiers:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd301437.aspx

For the local executable, you just need to copy and paste the regular NAV2009SP1 executable files into a local folder and create a shortcut.

What about the functionality to run classic report from RTC? Isn't there some problem with selection of correct version of NAV classic client?

Colleageu of me found this resolves the issue for openening classic reports with the right version.

When you start a classic report from RTC (a report with no layout defined), it starts the report engine from the classic client. It can happen that after updating RTC, you end up with a version of RTC which is not compatible with the default classic client. In this case you will typically get this error message when trying to run the report:
Microsoft Dynamics NAV Classic client was opened from an untrustworthy component. Contact your system administrator.

Or if you have a test machine with multiple versions of RTC and classic you may want to start the classic client from another folder.

RTC finds the location of Finsql.exe in this place in registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\

So if you have any of the issues above, make sure that the classic client in this folder matches the version of RTC.

But won't this just let R2 work and stop SP1 from running classic Reports?

Best is to use same version. Take the R2 as an update to the SP1 (which it is, because there are hotfixes now only for one version, applicable to both).

    Hi,
Has anyone gotten this error after creating the new service:
Could not start the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Server Instance 2 service on Local Computer. Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start.

I researched the error, but did not find a resolution.
    Thanks...

    Is your NetTcpPortSharing service running?
Stop the first service and start the second service first and then first service...
