using alternate unit of measure?

Sorry for the newbie post... One of my users somehow changed an item's base unit of measure from "box" to "pack". The base uom was originally box = 1, now it's box = 4, and pack = 1. :oops:

Unfortunately, the item originally had 30 boxes in bin contents, and the 30 boxes are now stuck. New entries will only record as packs, and I can't seem to do anything to the 30 boxes.

Currently it's showing 30 boxes and 0 packs, so doing a negative adjustment results in this: "Quantity must be greater than 0 in Bin Content Location Code='XXX',Bin Code='YYY',Item No.='ZZZ',Variant Code='',Unit of Measure Code='PACK'."

I searched and the problem seems to be similar to this, but there's no solution in that post.

I'm using NAV 5.0 SP1 on SQL 2008 R2. Thanks!

    The quickest way I've found to fix screw ups like this is to create a new item correctly.
    Transfer the merchant to the new item number. Block the old. And move on.

    If you need to keep the number the same you can rename the bad item
    Abc to abc-x. And recreate abc again.

    That's just my opinion and the easiest way to get rid of the headache.

    Thanks, that's what I'm doing right now but I'm just wondering if there's a better way since blocking the old item also means I lose the history.
