Master Production Schedule item order

Does the master production schedule have a particular order in which it plans items.

The client I am working with has four items
Item Number
AA
BB
CC
DD

When MPS is run for these four items, for some reason, The MPS planning engine first picks item DD and plans it first even if it has a due date later than item AA. It plans this item DD to run for a few days and then switches to the other items and then comes back to this item again. AS a result of this the due dates as per the planning turns out to be as follows:

Item AA - 16th - 18th
Item DD - 12th - 21st

The dates end up overlapping. Both these items use the same work center.

Ideally the case should be :
Item AA - 16th - 18th
Item DD - 19th - 21st

The planning seems to be following a hierarchy of reverse alphabetical order first and then the due dates.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I have not looked at NAV for a long time, but the planning order looks at low level codes first.
