nav 2009 r2 installation error

RanaRana Member Posts: 123
Hi All,

I am trying to install NAV 2009 R2 in windows server 2008 (in Administrator privilege) but i get errors like

1. Service 'Microsoft Dynamics NAV Server' failed to start. verify you have suffucient privilege to start the syatem services

2.The server principal 'Domain\Administrator' already exist.

I have searched the forum and try to resolve the problem but i can't.

any suggestion would be highly appreciatable.

thanks,

RANA

    Error 1:
    Even if your account is an administrator, you don't have enough privileges to just install a service.
    You need to right-click the installation program (or .cmd or .bat file in which the command is) and then select "run as administrator". And you need to do that EVEN IF YOU ARE an administrator

    Error 2:
    At which point do you have the error?

    try to start the service manually from the services list. if it does not work either, go to properties->log on of the service and set it to "local system account"

    Yeah, I have tried but it cant open . I have checked the event viewer and found the following:

    The service MicrosoftDynamicsNavServer failed to start. This could be caused by a configuration error.
    Detailed error information:Microsoft.Dynamics.Nav.Types.NavConfigurationException: The configured time
    zone identifier "UTC" for the setting "WebServicesDefaultTimeZone" was not recognized. Please use the
    identifier (in quotes) following the display name of the time zone you wish to use among the following
    list of recognized time zones:"

    how to correct it...pls help...

    Try to remove that setting to see if it works. Otherwise you might try to de-install and re-install to see if it helps.

    Hi,

    What OS and version are you running, and what language is it?

    Also can you see if this reg-key exists?
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Time Zones\UTC

    Thanks,

    Mike

    U can find the CustomSettings.Config file in following location:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\60\Service\
    (if u install nav in c: drive)

    then find the "WebServicesDefaultTimeZone" and then change its value as "India Standard Time"

    hope this will help u.....

    The issue is with a change that was made on the sever in Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 related to web services and timezones. Here is the info from the help file:

    Defining the Time Zone for Web Services
    The CustomSettings.config file, which is the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Server configuration file, now has a WebServicesDefaultTimeZone setting. You use this setting to define the time zone in which web service calls are run.

    The issue is that the default is “UTC” in the customsettings.config file on the server. Some OS Language and Country installations do not populate in the Registry the UTC entry. (Windows Server 2008 with SP2, English, India is one of those OS, Language and Country combinations.) The Web Server Service and the NAV service will not start if they don’t find the timezone that is configured in the customsettings.conf file. This is what we believe is happening in this case.

    How to fix this? You need to edit the CustomSettings.config file. This file should be located on the install drive in the following location: \program files\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\60\Service if you are on 32 bit OS and in \program files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\60\Service if you are on 64 bit OS.

    If you want the same behavior as in SP1 then edit the CustomSettings.config file and delete UTC from the configuration. The line would look like this:
    <add key="WebServicesDefaultTimeZone" value=""/>

    If you wish to configure this to a different time zone than UTC then you can select from the list that should be in the bottom part of the event log message that shows that the Service did not start. In my event log message I had this list:

    (GMT+05:30) Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi: "Server Time Zone"
    (GMT-12:00) International Date Line West: "Dateline Standard Time"

    The time zone for my machine has been set to “India Standard Time”, so if I wanted to use this timezone I could use either of these entries:

    <add key="WebServicesDefaultTimeZone" value="Server Time Zone"/>
    Or
    <add key="WebServicesDefaultTimeZone" value="India Standard Time"/>

    After you have made this change in the CustomSettings.config file the service should start.
