import from excel and then calculate inventory (report 790)

hi all i have one request to import from excel... calculate...and then update the line in the Phys. Inventory journal I have a file excel,there are several Variant Code in it the sequence is...
1. import that file, so we know what item and variant code in it
2. calculate inventory (report 790) only from the item and variant code in that excel file
3. update the Qty. (Phys Inventory) field from quantity in that excel file
does anyone try it before?

Yes I have done this before. There is some work and testing (time) involved, but otherwise its pretty straight forward.
