Did you solve the problem that the SharePoint Service that extracts the data from the database connects to the database with one specific Windows Account / Login and may have other access rights than the user who uses your SharePoint website? If yes, how did you solve it?
I consider building up the user rights in SharePoint environment again not as a solution. From my point of view as long as this is not solved in a proper way SharePoint and NAV are not intermateable.

We don't use RTC at the moment. I wasn't aware of that RTC is working in the same way. Could you please explain in a more detailed way how it works?

Thanks for your interest. For each SharePoint user there is a configuration in Dynamics NAV that defines which data from Dynamics NAV, the user can view and which actions (modifications, reports, etc.) the user can make with that data. Of course also the Dynamics NAV business logic is always applied. Therefore it doesn´t matter that the execution is done with the windows account of the NAS service as the NAS executes according the configuration. (Neither the RTC, nor the Classic Client is used for this. The NAV Client is only used to create the configuration mentioned before.)

    I have tested this software:
    - It is very complex software. In NAV you have to define al lot of tabels, fields and all settings in a confusing way
    - You need a separate license for the Itis database, you cannot have a test copy...
    - It uses the NAS, which is slow and instable.
    - We have had Itis consultants on site and after several days of work it still wasn't working properly. ](*,)

Microsoft has to come up up with an easy and intergrated portal.

    Dear folks from Einstein.net:
We think that the solution is pretty solid and covers the needs: you will apply the user rights given on the rights system of the SharePoint front end (AD or DB based) and can define certain views into the NAV database with a user/group/role concept at the same time. This allows for filtering and associated data streams in the web parts. If you like to have a look, we certainly would welcome your contact.

We have read your comment and we cannot disagree more with the topic of the ease of the software. The software actually is very easy to manage and maintain. An average NAV developer can built great solutions with it and can archive formidable results, as a lot of portals running today do reflect. With a new predefined kit of solutions in all kinds of areas of intranet usage, the way of getting your portal up and running is even easier than before, and setup is usually done within a couple of days only. We ourselves have done more than 20 installations and never had troubles like you were mentioning.

For an partner, you get free access to the VPC, you get a free license for your self and several other benefits. In particular, we are happy to help any NAV partner in the Benelux to get the tools up and running.

The NAS is as stable as a programmer in NAV handles his code. Actually there are two ways to overcome the drawbacks:
    a) documentation what you can do to archive great results and
    b) an addition component calls the IT IS application server manager.
This is a component helping with stability, connecting to several companies, load balance with some NAS and provides great saving on licenses because of the capabilities of better utilizing the NAS.

Whatever there will be from Microsoft, the matter of setting up an portal on SharePoint will need to be addressed by experts. The solutions need some customizing which is a great way for NAV partners to get a second leg on the ground for their businesses. The proven and stable, reliable and trustworthy solution that are there certainly will help getting the customers needs addressed.

    Hi,

you can even use a technically newer alternative - using web services instead of nas for processing the data. With the add on Anveo Web Desk, you can create web based NAV solutions within a couple of hours. Its a smart and very easy to use solution to bring any NAV data and processes on the web - even complex processes like posting with confirm messages within c/al-code is working.

    Watch our website www.navwebclient.com.
