Hi,
i have to upgrade navision 3.01 to NAV 2009. I havent worked before with navision but i have read about it for some weeks. Maybe somebody can give me some advice what is main steps to follow to do it. I watched one video and like i understand i need to make client non-customized objects file, client customized objects file and new version non-customized objects file. Sry, but i dont understand how i can make non-customized files. Secondly i dont understand exactly is it possible to upgrade 3.01 to NAV 2009 or i have to upgrade it first to 3.7. And... how long this process will take the time for beginner ?

Those three files are existing ones.
You'll have to get the Standard 3.01 version, the standard 2009 version and the actual customized version.
Having those three versions, you can merge them to have a 2009 customized version.
I have client database and installed 2009 version. Do i have to install 3.01 too ?
Depending on how the 3.01 solution was documented you need a standard 3.01 fob to be able to see what the customizations are.
You'll have to export objects into a txt file from the databases you have to get them.
You'll have to look for it on Partner Source

I have downloaded and installed navision 4.00 client and i have upgrade toolkit for 3.01 to 4.00 upgrading.
Everything seems to be clear but i still have problems with objects file.
I have read QuickUpgrade manual. There is a point what says - import the new customized objects created in the compare and merge process.
How i can create those objects ?
Do i have to install navision 3.01 client ? or not ?
Where and how i can export client customized version objects ?
Where and how i can export client base version objects ?
Where and how i can export new base version objects ?
Is there anybody who can help me ?

I really can't believe that you actually took a job like this.
please listen to the advice given by others and do not attempt this. You are setting yourself and your customer up for failure. Doing an upgrade from 3.01 to NAV 2009 is a major project and should be done by experienced NAV people.
Just to indicate some of the areas that you will have problems:
1. Does your customer have customization for functionality that now is included in the Native Product?
2. Does your customer have localizations in the NAV database?
3. Does your customer use 3rd party applications in their database? If so what are the required upgrade steps for those products?
4. In what functional areas does your customer have customization? If it is in Jobs or item tracking you are going to be up for one wild ride.
5. Is your customer on a Native database now and are they planning to go to SQL? If so, beware of date and field length problems.
6. Is your customer planning on using the RTC and SQL reporting?
This is just friendly advice by people that have gone through several upgrades to prevent you and your customer from getting dissatisfied with the NAV product.

Willy
