Report 1001 very slow.

Hi all.
I have a little problem with report 1001. It is very slow. It usually takes about 9 to 10 hours to run, I have no filters, just start and ending date in option tab.
Running on nav 3.70 but using 5.0 sp1 client. Using 2008 windows server with 2008 SQL server.
This is something we have lived with but now it want's to take even longer, I am guessing 3 years according my calculations. The funny thing is I ran it 2 days ago and it took 9 hours, now it runs at a diffrent pace.
Any thoughts?

Is there a maintenance plan running to optimise the indexes periodicaly?
There are known issues with this report in older versions. Microsoft has improved performance since v5 or v5.1
The indexex are optimised periodicaly, yes.
That's what I have been told, that this is in part 3.7 "problem". I just thought I should fish on this forum for some magic thing which would set me free...
