We have Windows 2003 SBS to login, store files, etc. Individually our machines in the office are Windows XP Pro. We all have Admin rights.
I have some files stored on the network drive. They're all JPG's and in different directories.
Yesterday I started a task someone gave me. Make a new folder, within that make some other folders, copy JPG files into the correct folder, rename them the correct way. Have to make sure we have a nice picture of everything in our new catalog, in case we need to email it to someone.
So, I did that. Yesterday everything was working fine. I created a folder "0 PB 2011". My boss wanted the 0 in front so it shows up first in Explorer. Within that I have 5 folders. Four of the with JPG's and one with a PDF.
Now this lady gets the idea to rename that "0 PB 2011" folder. Won't work. It says "Cannot rename 0 PB 2011: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.". I tried renaming it from multiple computers. It won't delete either. I tried the program "Unlocker" and it says it's not locked. I tried using Process Explorer and Handle from MS Technet, but don't see it there.
This happened once before, but I don't remember how I solved it.
I can go into that folder and rename the folders inside, as well as the files. I just can't rename the parent folder "0 PB 2011".
So, this lady says it's me and only happens when I do it. So, on her computer she decided to make a copy of this whole thing and try to rename it. She got sidetracked with someone else, so I sat down and renamed it "00 cat monkey" that worked, but after that I tried to rename it again and it gave me the error. It wouldn't let her machine delete it either. I went to my machine and was able to delete it.
So, I'm stuck with that "0 PB 2011" and can't figure out how to rename it. I can't reboot the server since only our Network Consultant has access and we'd have to do it when we close tonight so we don't lose any time.
